Advancing the Skill of Youth Champion through Film

The organization through a partnership with Stay Alive Foundation-MTV Shuga  hosted a peer champion training at the Mikindani Youth Empowerment Center.
The Training that brought together youths champions from different area of Mombasa impacted them with Knowlege on HIV and the New Trends in it.
The training used Evidence-based Intervention Shuga Down South to impact the Youth with information.


Key Finds
39% of the girls between the ages of 15-19 use contracept however the unmet needs for contraceptives among this ages is low high in Mombasa than the national level ration. The sexual debut for the most adolescent start at 11 hence putting most of them at risk of either contracting HIV or getting early pregnancy.

Objectives of the Training

  • Create a platform for youths to air out there view on the matter of sexual reproductive health and rights.
  • equip the peer champions with knowledge on how to facilitate Shuga Down  South.
  • To bring together representative from Youth group and community-based organization in helping to implement the program from the communities they come from
  • Impact the Champion with the knowledge of New HIV trend among the youths.
  • Disseminate knowledge  on life skills and human development



Recommendation/way forward
  1. Increase the number of Shuga Facilitator by  Training more in each sub-county in Mombasa.
  2. Role down the implementation of Shuga Down South by having the screening in different communities through the Youth Champion.
  3. Support the empowerment center to have its own training equipment like TV, Projector, and laptop machine.
  4. Partner with Mikindani Youth Friendly center to offer health services to the referred youth for health services
