VIOLENCE AT OUR DOORSTEP

 So much has taken over in our lives since the break of the pandemic. A lot of irregular cases have since been on the rise from every corner of our hoods. WHY THE RISE?? That should be the concern of anyone who feels the urge to express this silent act that is taking away our integrity as a society. We as a society need to step out from our individual preferences and turn to be our neighbor’s keepers in times of their need. Turudi nyuma kwa nyumba kumi initiative we try tackle this deed from its root within our reach.

Basically the problem starts right from our homesteads with much not taken in accordance to stop the intensity and spread of this act. Violence in relationship (domestic violence) has proven to be on the rise with the global data marking it at the peak. WHERE DID EVERYTHING TAKE A TURN?? Does such a question become of concern when we think of the domestic violence acts? Can we trace back to where we lost our virtues and morals towards our culture. That would be a generation of work to be accomplished.

Family that once was the backbone of nurturing good deeds and morals has since lost its value and core responsibility it possessed. Current marriages are experiencing continuous domestic violence from partners who vowed to be together through hardship and easy times. HOW EASY DOES IT GET TO HURT THOSE WHO TRUST US?? Very easy it is. Since it is those closest to us, we hope for them to be our guardians and protectors when need be which at times does not turn out as expected. A study shows that 1 in 3 women undergo domestic violence compared to the 1 to 4 ratio of men. Intimate partner violence affects more than 12 million people every year leading to numerous aftermath effects such as;

·        Psychological aggression

·        Post-traumatic stress development

·        Marriage breakouts(divorce)

·        Children poor growth system

·        Partner suicides

·        Deaths out of extreme physical abuse

·        Children stigmatization when it comes to marriage issues

·        Sexual abuse among partners

·        Poor communication and interaction between partners

ANYWAY WE CAN INTERVENE TO HELP REDUCE THIS ACT IN OUR COMMUNITIES?? We can take the initiative as an individual or a certified group to publicly speak out on this act. Professional trainings on family growth and sustainability should be engaged to help the young couples getting into marriage affairs be able to understand the importance of a strengthened commitment free from violence. WHAT OF OUR CHILDREN??IS IT THE RIGHT PICTURE TO PORTRAY TO THEM?? At all times we have to think of the coming generation whenever we are to do something that might have an effect to their lives. Never shy off reporting an incident of domestic violence, that might be your lifesaving step.
