WATER!! OUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY.

Water has been evident to be an essential need to our life, with much of the universe (almost 71%) occupied with it. From our domestic lives, our economic lives to even our recreational wants, water has been largely involved. Evidently human being cannot do without.

This has proven not to be the case as experienced by the residents of Bangladesh, an informal settlement in the Coast of Mombasa County. This has been caused by the construction of the Mikindani-Changamwe road which led to the underneath water pipe breakage in 2017. It is now four years since the settlement has been experiencing water difficulties within their localities. Water sources have dim dry time to time due to the seasonal presence of water unavailability.

Many efforts have been staged to curb the state but few have borne fruits. Water points (taps) and tanks have been put in place to help in the distribution of water sparingly but few have been to use. This is caused by the inadequacy of water to run through the channels consistently.

A study report was recently carried out by Pwani Youth Network to help discover the gaps in the water availability and ways to help tackle them. Efforts by Mombasa cement in distributing water through the trucks have really helped the community in accessing water. The initiative has been a major booster of the society in this time of their need. The Red Cross organization has also linked up with the settlements administrators to setup a water structure point to facilitate their ease.

The residents’ voices, images and videos were taken to help in the presentation of their needs to the relevant authorities responsible for water and hygiene in their locality. With the little help offered by Pwani Youth Network in expressing their problems, the community hopes for a change for the progression of their Eco-socio life.
